Leslie Roberts
I will console you with language
Leslie Roberts transforms language into paint, capturing the flood of overlooked information around us. She records unnoticed words from sources like street signs, text messages, and emails, mapping them into forms that become illuminated lexicons of 21st-century life.
Leslie Roberts has exhibited her work in galleries and museums across the United States and beyond, including Minus Space, Marlborough Gallery, 57W57 Arts, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York City; the Weatherspoon Art Museum in North Carolina; and the Hafnarborg Museum in Iceland. Her work has been recognized and supported by grants from the Pollock-Krasner and Gottlieb Foundations. Roberts holds a BA from Yale and an MFA from Queens College. She is a Professor Emerita at Pratt Institute. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
