10 Letters From Furkapass
10 c-prints with embossed text on the mat in a blue linen box
photography edition
Edition statement: “The summit of the Furkapass in the Swiss alps was for me always a special place. My memories of the mountain pass and its road go back to the time when I was 5 years old. Twice a year my family would drive over the pass to go to the canton of Wallis. The many curves it took to get to the summit seemed endless. Though once we arrived it was always spectacular in its dramatic landscape, changing weather, and its loneliness.
When Marco Hofstettler invited me to the summit of the Furkapass memories of my past seemed very present. In my ten-day residency at the Hotel Furkablick in 1997, I wrote ten letters to friends and family members with whom I had lost contact over the years. I had lost them to death or simply lost them as friends. I then sent the letters off by balloon one by one over the course of my stay.”
design Ten letters attached to ten balloons. The letters had no return address. All that remained is the documentation: 10 photographs, stored in a blue linen box.
