Sigmar Polke: Works on Paper, 1963–1974
exhibition catalogue
concept and book design
German artist Sigmar Polke rose to prominence in the early 1960s with his subversive and parodic commentaries on society, politics and artistic conventions. This book illustrates over 300 of his drawings, watercolours and gouaches from the period. Executed in his crude and humorous idiom, they demonstrate his imagination and sardonic wit.
design We decided to take a classic approach to this book. What mattered was choosing the right format, typography, paper, printing and binding. The colours of the chapter dividers are based on the Polke dots on the cover image.
