Georges Seurat: The Drawings
exhibition catalogue
concept and book design
Georges Seurat’s mysterious and luminous works on paper played a crucial role in his short, vibrant career. This publication surveys the artist’s oeuvre, from his training and the emergence of his methods to the studies made for his monumental canvases. This volume demonstrates his tremendous achievement as a draftsman and his influence on 20th-century art.
design We wanted to give this classic art-historical book a contemporary design. The unusually high-quality uncoated paper stock brings out the best in Seurat’s drawings. One aspect of note was our zooming in to pick out details of the drawings, just as a museum visitor examines a work up close. Luckily, this idea was embraced by curator Jodi Hauptmann.
