Geno(v)a: Developing and Rebooting a Waterfront City
catalogue
concept and book design
In the late 1990s, Genoa held a competition to redesign an ancient pier in its port. This book presents the various proposals and paints a picture of the most important designers working today. A number of critics put the context of the designs in perspective by examining the role of architects in city branding and shaping urban futures.
We used a grid to provide a background and guide the content. An “information bar” along the bottom contains footnotes, captions and snapshots, suggesting the constant buzz of a city under investigation. Panoramic images by Jordi Bernadó extend the full width of spreads.
