John Johansen, Visionary Architect: Models for the 21st Century and Documents by Kindred Spirits
exhibition
exhibition design, multimedia animation, invitation
Architect John M. Johansen was always fascinated by the achievements of technology. He dedicated himself to building models that develop visionary ideas about architecture and urban development. Using simple materials like plastic milk bottles, he constructed models of buildings, parts of cities and environments, not yet real, but realistic.
The idea was to photograph the models as if they were part of an animation, allowing the viewer to zoom in and zoom out, walk in and walk out, conveying the sensation of personally exploring each building. We found a great collaborator in photographer Michael Moran. For the installation, we then spliced the images together, almost as one would a comic book, and created a multimedia animation.
