Vanishing Point Forever
book
design, print production
Vanishing Point (1971) is a classic car chase film about a Vietnam War veteran fleeing in a Dodge Challenger. It’s more than a fast-paced adventure—it’s a modern Western, dystopian allegory and tribute to muscle cars. Vanishing Point has influenced popular media, arts, and the car world, becoming a cult classic honored by Tarantino, Spielberg, and Springsteen.
“This book is going to put Vanishing Point on its own map. That map should be available in every gas station between Colorado and California.”Richard Prince
The book features the film’s final shooting script, location photos, and production stills. It covers the film’s creation, from stars Barry Newman and Cleavon Little to Carey Loftin’s stunts. Robert M. Rubin’s tribute includes interviews and quotes from key figures like Prince, Kaminski, and Kerouac.
“Not only a great book, but a great object!”Jim Hoberman
The design uses various papers, screen resolutions, grids, and fonts to organize its contents. At its core is the complete movie script, paired with AI-enhanced stills. Surrounding the script are four sections: “Exploitation,” “Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll,” “The Kowalski Car,” and “The Jam,” each marked by silver-striped page openers reflecting the early ’70s. Transcripts are in blue, and the book begins with close-ups of the production schedule, followed by the introduction and main essay.

“The book’s unique layout, rich colors, and varied paper textures remind me of something Gypsy Lou and John Webb of Loujon Press might have created. It’s truly breathtaking, especially for muscle car and film history fans!”
