Louise Bonnet: Recent Paintings
exhibition catalogue
concept, book design, production
Louise Bonnet’s book showcases nineteen paintings created between 2019 and 2022, including three triptychs. The book also includes an essay by writer and editor Nicole Rudick, exploring Bonnet’s fascination with corporeal forms, and a conversation between Bonnet and novelist/poet Dodie Bellamy, discussing horror, memory, and the creative process.
Her paintings feature figures that balance between beauty and ugliness, absurd comedy, and discomfort. Drawing from various sources, Bonnet confronts gender and sexuality signifiers in a playful yet confrontational style. Her subjects are monumental yet diminished, with bloated limbs and eyeless faces.
The design of the book is structured around three diptychs, each displayed across a fold-out section. The cover material is a beige skin-tone velvet, creating a soft and tactile experience that mimics the sensation of human skin.
